About the Orient Road Jail
The Orient Road Jail, 1201 Orient Road in Tampa, is run by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. HCSO calls it the primary receiving facility for the county jail system, and it provides booking for more than 27 law enforcement agencies. That means a person arrested by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office or other local agencies is usually booked there. The Sheriff’s Office also runs the Falkenburg Road Jail at 520 N. Falkenburg Road, home of the video visitation center for both jails.
What Happens After Booking
After booking, a person who stays in custody generally goes before a judge for a first appearance, generally within 24 hours of arrest. The judge reviews the arrest and sets release conditions, including bond in Hillsborough County. Learn more about bond and bail in Florida and arraignment in Hillsborough County. Prosecutors with the 13th Circuit State Attorney’s Office decide what charges to file, but their choices are limited by the evidence, the law and the judges who hear each case. Every case is different.
Hillsborough County Courts
Many cases from Orient Road Jail bookings move on to the Hillsborough County courts in downtown Tampa, including the Courthouse Annex. Attorney Ron Frey’s office at 625 E. Twiggs St. is close to the downtown courthouse. He represents clients across Hillsborough County. See all Tampa Bay locations.
