The Pat Frank Courthouse sign at 419 Pierce Street with downtown Tampa towers behind it, photographed by Attorney Ron Frey.

If you or a friend or family member has to go to the Pat Frank Courthouse at 419 Pierce Street in downtown Tampa, it helps to know what is inside the building and how it fits with the other courthouses nearby. The Pat Frank Courthouse is part of a small courthouse complex. It sits near the George E. Edgecomb Courthouse at 800 E. Twiggs St. and the Courthouse Annex at 401 N. Jefferson St., and the different names and addresses can be confusing.

Attorney Ron Frey has been practicing law for over two decades and works in these downtown Tampa courthouses. Call or text (813) 775-2276 for a free, confidential initial consultation by phone, video or in person.

What Is Inside the Pat Frank Courthouse?

The building is named for former Hillsborough County Clerk of Court Pat Frank. Several offices that people often need are in this one building:

  • The State Attorney’s Office for the 13th Judicial Circuit. The prosecutors who handle criminal cases in Hillsborough County have their main office at 419 N. Pierce St. Learn more in our article, The 13th Circuit State Attorney’s Office: Who Prosecutes Cases in Hillsborough County.
  • Clerk of Court services, including the recording (Official Records) office. The Hillsborough County Clerk of Court lists recording, marriage licenses, passports, tax deeds and home solicitation permits at this location.
  • Civil traffic hearings. The 13th Judicial Circuit lists its civil traffic infraction hearing officer at 419 Pierce Street. Whether a traffic matter is heard here depends on the type of ticket and the circumstances. Criminal traffic charges, such as DUI or driving with a suspended license, are criminal cases and are generally handled in other courtrooms.
  • County civil courtrooms. Two county civil courtrooms recently moved into the building. The 13th Judicial Circuit’s division directory lists both divisions at 419 N. Pierce St.

Offices and courtrooms move from time to time. Check your notice or summons, or ask your attorney, before you go.

The Downtown Tampa Courthouse Complex: Which Address Is Which?

Many people are surprised to learn that “the courthouse” in downtown Tampa is really several buildings close together. Here is a quick guide:

  • George E. Edgecomb Courthouse, 800 E. Twiggs St. The main courthouse for the 13th Judicial Circuit, with many civil, family and other courtrooms, and the main public entrance to the complex.
  • Courthouse Annex, 401 N. Jefferson St. Home to most of the circuit (felony) and county (misdemeanor) criminal courtrooms, including first appearance.
  • The Frey Law Firm, 625 E. Twiggs St. Right across the street from the Pat Frank Courthouse and a short walk from Edgecomb and the Annex.

Some court listings use slightly different names for these buildings, which adds to the confusion. If your paperwork lists a building or address you do not recognize, call us and we can help you sort out where you need to be.
